In order to achieve the optical effect, the elements were milled in waves and RAL-coated.
Result: A "one-mould solution"!
The spectacular wave shape of the Willkie Farr & Gallagher building in Frankfurt is a sensation – and was to be continued in the interior, under observance of all structural requirements and fire safety regulations.
The Knauf Design gypsum fibre boards were to be affixed to the existing dry wall as facing formwork. In addition to the decorative effect, sound absorption to the corridor was required.
The initial step was to create the wave design on a computer according to the specifications of the interior designer. With the help of the CNC program, the boards were processed with a spherical cutter. In order to achieve the required joint transitions, the untreated boards had to be milled and cut in one piece, making each board unique. For the final processing, the surfaces were refined with a two-component silk gloss paint.
A further remarkable fact: The whole process from planning to delivery of the boards only took four weeks.
