The KNAUF DESIGN baffled ceiling allows the sprinkler system to rain through – for which purpose 50 percent of the ceiling had to remain free.
  • In varying its colouring, the ceiling takes on the function of reflecting the orientation and allocation of the various functions (of the different rooms) and indeed the cooking process.
  • The acoustic baffles were printed all round in a digital process and afterwards milled on the back and folded into shape.
  • A cable suspension system with T-rails slotted into the baffles serves as mounting, by means of which the elements could be threaded into place, one by one.
  • The colour red stands for the AEG division, blue for Electrolux. The meeting/conferencing area is green, the coffee lounge yellow and the Grande Cuisine is in purple.

Coloured baffled ceiling in Electrolux's visitors and competence centre

TasteLab: First-class acoustics combined with optical quality. In close cooperation with Prof. Martin Schroth whose architecture firm was charged with the design of the Taste Lab, Knauf developed acoustics baffles that were all over digitally printed. After the coloration, the panels were milled on the backside and folded in shape by the joinery Meissner in Neusitz.

660 different baffles printed on both sides were created, produced in 2.5 m long elements fixed to the ceiling according to a precise plan. The basis board offers a special consistency and is 100 % moisture-resistant. This means that the baffle permanently stands in form even in persistent high humidity and temperatures between 0° and 40 ° C. In addition, it is highly sound absorbent.

Project description

Knauf Design digital print on AMF panels proved to be the optimal solution to unite acoustics, technology and visuals in Electrolux’s new TasteLab.

The architectonic coloured baffle ceiling combines the requirements of the house technology as well as the orientation and allocation of the different rooms of the visitors’ and competence centre in the best possible way.

In addition to a fast installation, the 660 different baffles also score by reflecting the TasteLab’s Coroprate Identity and by individually supporting the different functions of the new building so that the different business units are also visually represented. Furthermore, the baffle solution creates excellent acoustics throughout the TasteLab.

The application of this system is a functional, cost-effective solution that ensures unique insights and impressions for TasteLab visitors.
